Join us August 22-25 this summer for a whole new kind of adventure! We’ll be digging deep into life together and enjoying all the wilderness has to offer, while enjoying gourmet food and real beds! Glamping is the best way to have fun, build relationships, and experience the peace of the wild, all without compromising on style. If you love spending time outside, having deep conversations, going on adventures, and savoring good food, then this is an experience you don’t want to miss!
What to Expect:
Thursday Arrive in the afternoon to get settled in, enjoy our sandy beach on Lake Superior, and get to know the other women on the trip! We’ll be serving a gourmet supper, complete with beer and wine pairings.
Friday River Canoe Day! After a gourmet breakfast prepared for you over a fire, we’ll be gearing up and driving to the nearby Brule River. Depending on what the group wants, we can either paddle a peaceful, beautiful stretch of the river, or a fun whitewater section. We’ll do a picnic lunch along the river, and come back to Camp Amnicon late in the afternoon. After a delicious dinner complete with beer and wine pairings, we’ll watch the sun set over Lake Superior while we sit beside a campfire.
Saturday Voyageur Canoe Day! After an amazing breakfast, we’ll be gearing up and going to the nearby Apostle Islands. We’ll paddle all together in one of Camp Amnicon’s 34′ Montreal canoes out to one of the islands. Lunch will be served picnic style on the island, and we’ll have some time in the afternoon for either hiking on the island, or paddling more around the area. After a delicious dinner complete with beer and wine pairings, we’ll watch the sun set over Lake Superior while we sit beside a campfire.
Sunday We’ll have a little bit of time after breakfast for one last hike around Camp Amnicon’s gorgeous lakefront and riverside before saying goodbye to our fellow adventurers and heading home.
Details & Logistics:
Who can come? You must be 21+ years old to sign up, able to walk at least half a mile, and be able to lift and carry 50 pounds for a short distance.
How much does it cost? We’re asking for $400/person. This includes all the food, gear, and trained staff you’ll need to enjoy the trip. If you’re able to pay more than that, we’ll very happily accept an additional donation! If you’re not able to afford $400, and still want to come on the trip, please let us know! We never want money to be the reason why someone wouldn’t get to come to Amnicon. Some scholarships are available.
What do I need to bring? You’ll get a detailed packing list before you come, but essentially you’re just responsible for your own clothes, sleeping bag, and positive attitude.
Where are we staying? We’ll be spending our mornings and evenings at Camp Amnicon’s seasonal retreat facility, Adizokan Village! You’ll get to sleep in a real bed in one of our sturdy platform wall-tents. There’s also a picnic shelter, a campfire ring, and easy access to Lake Superior. Click here to see more pictures of Adizokan Village!
What will the spiritual component of the trip be like? We are a Lutheran camp, so there will be a spiritual side to this adventure! We’ll start and end every day with a brief devotion we like to call First & Last Words. This usually looks like 15-20 minutes of reading a short story or poem, and then discussing it as a a group. Somewhere throughout the day we’ll also lead a longer Bible Study, where everyone in the group will have the opportunity to share a story from their own life, and then hear and discuss a story from the Bible. All spiritual elements of this trip are designed to bring people closer to each other and closer to God. Do you have doubts, struggles, questions? Good! This is a safe place to share those and talk about them openly. Have you walked with God for a long time? Good! Please share that too, and be ready to learn from the life experiences of the other women on the trip.
Will there be enough chocolate? Yes, we will have plenty of chocolate.
