About the location

The Boundary Waters are heralded as some of the nation’s finest canoeing and camping. This pristine wilderness area boasts over a million acres of stunning views, beautiful waterways, and endless adventure. Each trip into the BWCA can only scratch the surface of what it has to offer. And there’s no better time to visit the BWCA than the fall. While the blazing foliage is inspiring awe, you’ll enjoy the typically dry and cool weather that means fewer insect pests.

You don’t want to miss this amazing experience.

Trip overview

This trip is perfect for a long weekend!

On the first day, we’ll be ready to pack up and head to the BWCA as early as possible to get as much time on the water as we can. You’re welcome to come at the butcrack of dawn on the first day, or stay over the night before.

We’ll spend four days (three nights) paddling across pristine lakes, portaging our gear from lake to lake to reach places you just can’t get without a canoe and a spirit of adventure. We’ll camp along the water, enjoy meals cooked over a fire, and dig deep into life together as a small yet intentional community.

By the end of the weekend, you’ll have made lasting memories, laughed at inside jokes around the fire, dug deep into life, and formed meaningful friendships. You don’t want to miss it!

What are the guides like?

Our wilderness guides are amazing, and you’ll love them. We send two highly trained individuals with each group. They have been chosen because they have demonstrated an impressive level of maturity, care of creation, and a desire to connect with and serve our campers. They will be certified in Wilderness First Aid, Wilderness Water Safety, CPR, and have extensive training in wilderness skills, navigation, group management, and mental health first aid. We do our best to hire a diverse staff every year, and often hire staff from overseas! Amnicon does not discriminate in our hiring based on gender identity, sexual orientation, race, country of origin, or religious affiliation.

What are the bathroom facilities like?

Campsites have pit toilets that are often referred to as “Ranger Boxes”. They are down a path, out of view of the campsite. It’s like sitting on a toilet seat without any walls. It might be a little weird your first time, but once you get used to it, the view is quite nice! And no walls means they usually don’t smell bad.

Is there any portaging?

Yep! It’s all part of the experience. Portages are a great time to connect with the other group members who aren’t in your boat, as well as grabbing a snack or taking a leak. We’ll work together as a team to carry the canoes, gear, and food, so no one gets left with too heavy of a burden.

When is this trip available?

This trip is designed to fill a long weekend in either September or October. You can choose whether Thursday to Sunday or Friday to Monday works better for your group.
